Resource Leveling Start to Start tasks

When I level the resources it pushes tasks that are suppossed to start on the
same day out to almost look like a start to finish relationship on the Gantt
Chart. Is there anyway you can level the resources so the tasks show on the
Gantt Chart that they are starting on the same day? Essentially any task
that has the start to start relationship would level the resources by
assigning a percentage of work to each resource until each task is complete.

I am begining to think that Project will not make this calculation for you.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you level using the built-in leveling tool in Microsoft Project, the
software can take only one of two possible actions to level overallocations:

1. Delay tasks and/or assignments.
2. Split tasks and/or assignments.

Thus, it won't do what you expect it to do in your situation (reduce the
Units). Instead, you must adjust the Units manually on each assignment as
needed to resolve the overallocation, knowing that the software will
increase the Duration of each task appropriately (unless you use a Fixed
Duration task type). Hope this helps.

Part of your problem is, I believe, a misunderstanding about a SS
relationship. It is quite common for people to think that SS means the
2 linked tasks must start on the same date. Not true. SS relationship
means the the successor task can't start any earlier than the
predecessor, but can start at a later date if other predecessors and/
or constraints so dictate. If you want to force 2 tasks to start on
the same date, you have to copy the start date of the predecessor and
paste it into the start date of the successor.

Hope this helps in your world.

Hi daveng,
How do you do it? Copy and paste a specified date so that when I changed
that date the "pasted" date will atuo change??

To make a 'dynamic link' which is what you want to do:

Copy the date you want to be tracked by clicking on the start date and
the use <CTRL-C> or edit copy.

To make a dynamic link from that date to another date field such that
when the first date changes, the linked one also does, Edit/Paste
Special/Paste Link.
