Wrong Publisher File Attached in Email?

B

bfrancis

I have a user who took an existing Publisher file (fileA) off of the network,
and did a Save As... and changed the name (to fileB) and saved the file to a
different directory. She edited fileB (from 6 pages down to 1) and attached
it in an email and sent it off for review. When the email was recieved,
fileA was attached, and when opened contained the contents of fileA (6
pages). fileB should have been recieved.

The user says that fileB was attached and after sending the email, did a
shift+delete so the email was not in the "sent" or "deleted items" of
Outlook. Has anyone ever heard of this happening, or did this user most
likely just attach the wrong file and not realize it. I told the user I
would see if anyone has ever come across this and would give an update when I
did so.

Thanks in advance,

I wonder if the user attached the file to the email first, then opened it
from there and edited it (?)
Sounds like it to me.

I just talked to the user who was able to replicate the problem. Basically
the steps taken to make this happen are;

1. User opens fileA
2. User does Save As... and names it fileB
3. User edits fileB and saves it
4. User navigates to File : Send Email : Send Publication as attachment
5. A new messge window opens from Outlook with fileB attached
6. User sends email with attached fileB to desired recipient

*I hope this next part is worded well enough to be understandable*

7. Recipient opens file and sees contents of fileB before the changes were
made, so basically they see the contents of fileA
8. The "Sent" folder in Outlook is opened in order to check the email to
double check that the correct file was attached. When the attachment is
opened, fileB comes up with the contents of fileA.

But.....

If we go straight to Outlook after saving fileB, and manually attach fileB
then the correct version of the file is sent. So there is a work around.

So it looks like there is possibly a bug in Publisher when editing files
then saving and using the built in attach feature. Something else to note is
that after fileA is opened and saved as fileB, a change can be made, followed
by a save. Another update is made without closing publisher and saved, and
when sent through Outlooks attach feature, it still attaches fileB with the
contents of fileA.

Again I hope this all is understandable and if someone knows of a fix or an
update that is available I hope they can add some insight.

Thanks,

I follow, not sure I know the answer though...maybe a caching thing.

For S&Gs try this... after Saving As file B. Close the file, close Pub.,
then reopen file B and see if it still sends as B with A contents.

Whew...this may be a 2 cup of coffee problem :)

I've seen this reported before.

Yep.

I don't know of any fix or update yet. Personally I don't understand
having the File > Send as attachment button there anyway; if I want to
send an attachment I'll do it myself in my email program - there's less
chance for errors.
